Experiments including spheres and arbitrary shapes like polyhedrons have been included into uni-axial tests but now, 3DXRCT scanning allow us to obtain real shapes from concrete aggregates and include them with their original positions in the cement matrix.

INSπRE (former T&CMG) has as its goal covering the fields of theoretical, computational, and applied mechanics, provided these are the main bridge between fundamental science and industry. In specific, an area of especial interest for INSPIRE.

Benefit to the community

This simulations allow us to get better accuracy with meso-mechanic scale simulations of uni-axial loading of columns of cement with aggregates to predict better column’s resistance to uni-axial loads.
